Nicola Abraham MBE
Jacob Abraham Foundation
Cardiff, Wales UK
We set up a foundation in Jacobs memory in 2015 to help other young people suffering from anxiety, depression and over whelming feelings of despair. We aim to raise awareness in mental health and in doing so reduce the stigma, and encourage open conversations about mental health. We are marking our 10-year anniversary with a Ball of Hope this December; for tickets or more information please contact the foundation.
Jacob's Story
Jacob was our eldest son and Dominic's brother, loved by all who knew him, a laid-back, happy-go-lucky lad who loved going out with his mates at the weekend. He had a great job working with his Dad and was fully invested in his health having completed the Cardiff Half Marathon the weekend before. He was 24 and still lived at home until one fateful Saturday afternoon on the 10th of October 2015, he took drastic action that ended his life.
We know he'd been to a rave at the Student Union the night before where he'd mixed his alcohol with a few sniffs of coke and came home to an empty house in the early hours of Saturday morning. He probably couldn't sleep and would have been experiencing the come-down from the night before all alone. We believe the cocaethylene in his system made him believe it was too much for him to bear, we'd seen him struggle before with the day after but had no idea it could have ended the way it did.
We don't believe he wanted to die forever, it was just how he felt in that moment. He is missed beyond belief.
